John F. Kennedy spoke about the New Frontier, and Donald Fagen of Steely Dan sang a cynical song about it, but here we are on the threshold of our future. The New Frontier. In order to face its challenges, we need to be well-equipped to handle them. One way is to ensure you have a rugged vehicle that can handle all that life throws our way. Last year, Nissan introduced the latest model of their popular midsize pickup truck, the Frontier. The changes that Nissan made have put the Frontier at the forefront of its class. Now, if you are looking for a Nissan Frontier for sale, you’ll have to know which trim will work best for you as you face your own New Frontier challenges.
The 2023 Nissan Frontier comes with five different trim levels and two drivetrains and cab styles. Some trims only come with a 4X4 drivetrain and a Crew Cab, while others offer more options. Whichever one you choose, you will get a powerful 3.8-liter V6 gas engine with a nine-speed automatic transmission that delivers 310 hp at 6400 RPM and 281 lb-ft of torque at 4400 RPM. This makes the Frontier capable of towing up to 6720 lbs and hauling 1610 lbs of cargo in its payload bed. The Frontier will also give you solid fuel economy with up to 20 MPG combined with rear-wheel drive models.
Frontier S
The 2023 Nissan Frontier S is the base model of this midsize pickup truck. Nissan offers it with a choice of a King Cab or a Crew Cab. While both provide two rows of seats, the Crew Cab can seat up to 5 passengers, with the King Cab only being able to accommodate 4. In addition, the King Cab provides less legroom than the Crew Cab in the rear seat, 33.2 in for the Crew Cab, and 26.2 in for the King Cab. However, the King Cab is lighter, less expensive, and offers greater towing and hauling capabilities.
In addition, you can choose between rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive on the Frontier S. This allows you to determine which drivetrain serves your purposes better. If you choose to go with the four-wheel drive, you will get a switch-operated 2-speed transfer case. Nissan has given this truck a set of 16 in styled steel wheels.
The Frontier S is a very technologically forward truck. It comes with a NissanConnect infotainment system on an 8 in color touchscreen. This will allow you to connect your smartphone and stream your favorite apps using Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There is also a 4-speaker AM/FM audio system. Standard features on the Frontier S include Intelligent Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, and a rearview monitor.
Frontier SV
Just like the Frontier S, the Frontier SV gives you the options of a King Cab or Crew Cab, as well as rear-wheel and four-wheel drive. However, the SV gives you more standard equipment than the S. The Frontier SV adds a 6-way power driver’s seat with a 2-way manual lumbar support and a premium cloth seat trim. The truck rides on 17 in 6-split spoke aluminum alloy wheels.
The SV is the only Frontier trim with an available long bed. Where the other payload beds on the Frontier measure between 58.9 in and 59.5 in, you can get a 2023 Frontier SV with a 73.3 in payload bed. This is handy for folks who plan to use their truck for serious cargo hauling.
The Frontier SV also adds more technology features. For example, the NissanConnect system includes a 6-speaker stereo system. In addition, there is more exterior styling on the Frontier SV, like a body-color front grille and rear bumper, as well as an upper body-color/lower silver front bumper.
Frontier Midnight Edition
What stands out about the Midnight Edition is its dedication to the color black. The 17 in aluminum-alloy wheels are painted black alongside the front grille and Midnight Edition special badging. There are even black interior accents on its premium cloth seats inside its standard Crew Cab.
However, the Frontier Midnight Edition is more than just a gorgeous black midsize pickup truck. It features LED signature headlights and LED fog lights, setting it apart from the S and SV trims. It also has a full complement of Nissan’s driver assistance technology features. These add things like Intelligent Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning, a Rear Sonar System, Rear Automatic Braking, High Beam Assist, and Rear Cross Traffic alert to the standard features on the Frontier S and SV trims. This will help you with things such as automatically adjusting the cruise control speed, safely changing lanes, and avoiding accidents when you drive your Frontier in reverse. These features are especially helpful if you are trailering at the time. Nissan gives you a choice of rear-wheel and four-wheel drive on the Frontier Midnight Edition model.
Frontier PRO-X
The 2023 Nissan Frontier PRO-X is a truck built for a comfortable ride with maximum towing capability. The PRO-X comes with a standard Crew Cab and rear-wheel drive. This allows it to seat up to 5 passengers comfortably while being able to tow up to 6,470 lbs.
Inside the Frontier PRO-X are a set of PRO-X embroidered seats. These are so comfortable that your passengers may even forget they’re riding in a pickup truck. These seats feature Lava Red contrast stitching, which is carried throughout the truck’s interior. The steering wheel and shift knob are leather wrapped. There is also a dual-zone climate control system, so the passengers in the back can set their own temperature.
Nissan has equipped the PRO-X with a NissanConnect infotainment system and a 9 in color touchscreen. This includes a built-in navigation system designed to detect traffic in real-time so you can steer around the traffic jams. It also comes with a 5-year trial subscription to Nissan Connect Services powered by SiriusXM. This also includes a Wi-Fi hotspot so you and your passengers can stay connected no matter where you drive your Frontier PRO-X. Plus, if you really love your music, you can even opt for the available 10-speaker Fender premium audio system. Fender is one of the most legendary names in music, having introduced such iconic guitars as the Stratocaster and Telecaster.
Frontier PRO-4X
Featuring the same interior and technology features as the PRO-X, the 2023 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X is an off-road version of this amazing midsize pickup truck. The PRO-4X comes with a standard four-wheel drivetrain featuring a trim exclusive electronic locking rear differential.
The Frontier PRO-4X rides on a set of 17-inch dark-finished aluminum-alloy wheels, wrapped with all-terrain tires. The suspension system features Bilstein off-road performance shock absorbers. These are also on the PRO-X trim but is the only off-road feature on that trim. Nissan has given the PRO-4X a slight lift, with a ground clearance of 9.8 in. As a result, the PRO-4X has an approach angle of 32.3 degrees, a departure angle of 23 degrees, and a breakover angle of 19.6 degrees. These are better than any other trim of the 2023 Frontier, and will give you the off-road performance you need to get up and over almost any obstacle in your path. To give you more peace of mind, Nissan has equipped the Frontier PRO-4X with an aluminum front skid plate and a set of underbody skid plates designed to protect the oil pan, fuel tank, and transfer case. This midsize truck is ready to hit the trail as soon as you drive it off the dealer’s lot.
