The 2016 Jeep lineup is full of incredible models. Celebrating its 75th anniversary with special editions, along with offering up one of the most extensive lineups in the brand’s history, Jeep is having one of its best years yet. From the compact 2016 Jeep Compass, to the full-size 2016 Grand Cherokee, Jeep has something for everyone this year.
One of the newest editions to the brand’s lineup is also one of the most unique models to ever be offered under the iconic Jeep name. The Renegade is a subcompact crossover that mixes the utility of a Jeep, with the style and intrigue of a modern SUV. It has been catching the eye of drivers and the entire automotive industry since it was first introduced last year, and is only gaining momentum for 2016.
5 Reasons to Love the Renegade
Whether you are an avid Jeep enthusiast, or are newly entertaining the brand, the Renegade offers maximum appeal across the board. It’s sporty and unique exterior styling offers a substantial presence on the road that other subcompact crossovers can’t match. From bright Jeep exterior paint colors, to it’s rugged off-road capability, there are a lot of reasons to love the Renegade.
Before we get into everything this crossover is offering for the 2016 model year, let’s take a look at five of our favorite reasons to love the newest model in Jeep’s lineup.
-
Best in Class Capability:
No other subcompact crossover available on the market can match the Renegade’s four-by-four capability. This fact should not come as a surprise, seeing as how the Renegade is made by a brand known for its off-road ruggedness. The new Renegade features a rear axle disconnect system that can switch seamlessly between two- and four-wheel drive, while at the same time reducing energy loss for increased fuel efficiency. Renegade models equipped with Jeep’s Active Drive Low system earn the brand’s coveted Trail Rated Badge for ultimate off-road performance.
-
Award Winning:
The Renegade has only been available for two years, and it has already racked up an impressive list of awards and recognition. Named one of Kelley Blue Book’s 10 Favorite New Cars for 2015, one of the 10 Best All-Wheel-Drive Vehicles Under $25,000, and one of its 10 Most Fun SUVs – the Renegade has earned swift and massive recognition. Other awards come from Autoweek, the Texas Auto Writers Association, Consumer’s Digest, Ward’s, and AAA Arizona, with each institution bestowing multiple honors on the subcompact crossover.
-
70 Available Safety Features:
The Renegade offers a ton of active and passive safety features for both of its model years. Seven airbags come standard, including full-length side curtain and a knee blocker airbag, while optional safety features include Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Departure Warning, Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking, and more. With over 70 safety features available, we don’t have to list them all to stress just how impressive this fact actually is.
-
Unique Appearance:
The Renegade is a truly unique Jeep vehicle, featuring an exterior styling that no other car in the lineup can match. As soon as you see the Renegade, you will know exactly what it is – even if you have never seen it before in person. It’s exceptionally styled exterior allows it to stand out in the best possible way, no matter where it ends up. For even more distinction, Jeep offers every Renegade model with the option of adding the brand’s My Sky feature. This pair of removable roof panels can open up the Renegade completely, bringing the outdoors, inside. No other brand in the United States offers this unique feature, which may be well worth the added expense to drivers who truly want to experience what it is like to stand out from the rest of the cars on the road.
-
Versatile Interior:
Every crossover, even one categorized as subcompact, should be able to handle a good deal of cargo. The open hatch design of a crossover allows for more interior versatility and storage options, that a sedan simply can’t deliver. The 2016 Renegade offers either a 60/40 split folding rear bench seat, or a more functional 40/20/40 split rear bench option with a cargo area pass through. The Renegade offers a maximum cargo capacity of 50.8 cubic feet, an incredibly impressive number for its segment.
Which Renegade Model is Right For You?
The 2016 Renegade is offered in a multitude of trim level options, ranging in both price and features. Jeep even offers a few special editions of the Renegade for 2016, including its Anniversary Special Edition model, and the Dawn of Justice Special Edition.
All Renegade models come standard with FWD, but can be upgraded for off-road 4×4 capability. The three base models come with a 1.4-liter MultiAir turbo engine, while the top of the line Limited model comes standard with a 2.4-liter I4 engine. Either way, each Renegade model comes with the performance expectation that only Jeep can deliver. Check out a quick rundown of each of the four regularly offered Renegade models available for 2016.
-
Renegade Sport:
Staring at $17,995, this Renegade model comes equipped with power windows and locks, a four-speaker sound system, 16-inch steel wheels, and a keyless entry system. This Renegade is bare bones in terms of amenities, but is a great option for drivers who need the versatility that the subcompact offers, without the higher price tag.
-
Renegade Latitude:
This version of Jeep’s newest crossover starts at $21,395, and includes more amenities and features for the small jump in price. Featuring standard power heated mirrors, cruise control, satellite radio, ambient interior lighting, a rearview camera, automatic head lamps, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and roof rails, this Renegade offers a little more utility for only a small price increase.
-
Renegade Limited:
The highest trim level offering for the 2016 Jeep Renegade starts at $25,120. This price adds the more powerful engine, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power driver seat, dual-zone automatic climate control system, automatic wipers, a remote start system, a larger driver information display, dual exhaust tips, and 18-inch wheels – all standard.
-
Renegade Trailhawk:
This Renegade model is not officially a separate trim level of the subcompact crossover, but it is distinctive enough to stand out on its own. This model comes standard with the upgraded all-wheel drive package which includes low-range gearing, a raised suspension, tow hooks, hill descent control, underbody skid plates, and all-terrain tires. The standard amenities included on this model are similar to what you would find in the Renegade Latitude model, with the main difference being in off-road capability.
All of the Renegade models have the option of adding four-wheel drive, and other capability features. Different option groups can add on safety features, as well as convenience and technology amenities. Essentially, the 2016 Jeep Renegade can be as unique and tailored to your needs, as you want it to be. Of course everything comes at a price, but with its affordable starting MSRP, the Renegade is one vehicle in Jeep’s lineup you can pack full of premium features, and still end up spending less than you would expect.
