2016 Land Rover Range Rover SVAutobiography: $199,495
The incredible price tag for this ride is nearly $60,000 more than the next vehicle on this list. Is it worth it? John Edwards, the brand’s Managing Director of Special Vehicle Operations, sure seems to think so:
“Range Rover SVAutobiography epitomizes sophisticated design,” he said (via the company’s website). “Our most luxurious specification yet this vehicle has been crafted with precision and car, culminating in exquisite attention to detail.”
Edwards certainly isn’t wrong. Upon first glance at the vehicle, you can tell that it’s an impressive work of art. The engineers wanted to ensure that “every tailored aspect whispers sophistication and attention to detail,” and that’s evident by the elegant Duo Tone paintwork (combining Santorini Black with nine potential color choices), the handsome 21- or 22-inch wheels, and the unique front grill (which, as the website describes, “enhances the vehicle’s distinct and prestigious appearance”).
The interior is also just as expertly engineered, with top-of-the-line perforated Semi-Aniline leather (coming from Black Wattle trees’ bark extract) used on the seats and “sustainable” woods used on the dashboard.
The highlight may be the incredible 29-speaker 1700W Meridian sound system. Paired with the Meridian Trifield 3D technology, the driver had greater control of the sound coming into their cabin.
2015 Mercedes-Benz G-Class: $137,150
The G-Class is already an expensive line of vehicles, but the price is pushed way up when you opt for the G63 AMG Base. The SUV’s main selling point is the incredible handcrafted 5.5-liter AMG biturbo V8 engine, capable of producing 563 horsepower and accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds. You’ll be suffering a bit in fuel economy (around a 13 combined mpg), but if you can afford this Mercedes, we’re sure you’re not concerned with those specs.
The “ageless” design of the SUV originates in the military, where the company was originally contracted to produce several vehicles. Even with all of the modern improvements, the brand was focused on retaining the “uncomplicated, uncompromised and functional” ability of the SUV. Among the modern inclusions was the addition of polished chrome and stainless steel. The clever accents and sculpted design make the G-Class one of the most stylish vehicles on the road.
Of course, considering the stylish exterior, you’d expect a variety of amenities in the cabin. Crafted almost entirely by hand, the interior features designo leather covers for the seats, leather dash and door inserts, and polished wood and chrome accents. The Cockpit Management and Data (COMAND) system is a plus, as it allows the driver to access hands-free navigation, audio, and calling.
Finally, the brand has included a number of helpful safety features. This includes the innovative Distronic Plus, an adaptive cruise control that utilizes radar technology to adjust your speed based on the flow of traffic. The Blind Spot Assist will notify you of anyone who may have crept in beside you, and the Parktronic ultrasonic sensors will detect objects via the front and rear bumpers (subsequently sending the cabin audible and illuminated signals).
2016 Cadillac Escalade ESV Platinum: $94,950
The Escalade actually isn’t the third on this list, as the 2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG GL63 Base ($121,100), 2016 Mercedes-Benz GL63 AMG Base ($119,450) and 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Sport ($111,350) all come in north of $100,000. However, considering these vehicles would be a bit repetitive with the previously mentioned SUVs, we decided to skip ahead to the Cadillac.
The Platinum trim offers a luxurious interior, including Nappa leather Semi-Aniline seats in the first and second rows, and Full Mulan leather in the third. The instrument panel, center console and doors are all wrapped in leather, and customers can choose between a pair of interior colors: Tuscan Brown (with the Creme Laurel Burl wood accents) or Jet Black (with the Sumi Black Tamo Ash wood accents). The headliner is made of suede microfiber and the 18-way driver and front-passenger seats offer a three-mode massage. Does it honestly get any better than that?
Other exclusive features include a unique grille design, 22-inch nine-spoke ultra-bright Silver metallic wheels, platinum sill plates, a Dual DVD screen, an insulated cooler in the front console, and premium floor mats.
The engineers have clearly focused on comfort, and that’s indicated by the additional legroom and passenger room (increased to eight). To put the cherry on top of the driving experience, the driver and passengers can access the Cadillac Cue Information and Media Control System. Through the center infotainment screen, you can access apps, music, your phone, and navigation.
The vehicle’s engine may be just as impressive as the interior. The 6.2-liter V8 engine teams up with an eight-speed transmission to produce 460 ft-lbs of torque and a best-in-class 420 horsepower. The SUV also includes a number of features to improve the efficiency, including Variable Valve Timing, direct injection, and Active Fuel Management.
2016 Infiniti QX80 Limited: $88,850
The QX80 highlight’s the fourth brand’s inclusion on this list. After having made its debut only a year ago, Infiniti’s decked out SUV is already starting to gain some massive popularity. The QX80 won the 2015 “Most Popular on Edmunds.com” award for the Premium Luxury SUV segment, an indication that customers are certainly recognizing the luxurious vehicle.
Once again, the vehicle will offer drivers an excellent driving experience, offering a Bose 13-speaker premium sound system that owners can supplement with dual seven-inch monitors running around the back. With the Limited package, drivers can appreciate the truffle brown leather-appointed seats, Open Pore Matte Finish Ash Wood accents, and dark chrome trim. Speaking of the limited package, customers have the opportunity to choose between three exclusive paint colors: Imperial Black, Mocha Almond or Dakar Bronze.
The Infiniti Connections system allows the driver to access all of their digital applications, whether it be navigation, phone, or radio. The Personal Security provides the driver with help in an emergency or a reminder for a repair, while the Convenience and Concierge allows you to order tickets, make reservations or schedule a meeting. Finally, the Remote Services allows the driver to check in on their vehicle no matter where they are.
The 5.6-liter V8 engine (with the seven-speed transmission) offers solid specs, including 400 horsepower and 413 ft-lbs of torque. The incredible number is the acceleration, as the QX80 can get from 0 to 60 mph in seven seconds.
There a number of possible options, although they’ll all set you back financially. The SUV market does feature some affordable vehicles, but you’ll traditionally have to pay a pretty penny regardless of the model.
