Your Guide to the Infotainment Systems of Full-Size Trucks

For many people, full-size trucks are all about full-size power and performance; they focus on engine sizes, horsepower and torque, and capability in terms of payload and towing capacities. Those are all incredibly important things to consider with a truck since half the reason to own a truck is being able to do those things. But for others, interior comfort and tech features are just as (in some cases more) important, and what’s offered by each manufacturer in this regard is at the top of their list of priorities.

For example, someone interested in a Ram 1500 for sale might be after some of the most impressive luxury features and technology out there because Ram’s been doing an excellent job pushing ahead with great features year after year. Of course, Chevy and Ford aren’t about to let Ram leave them behind, so we have an infotainment arms race going on these days, and the winner of this race is invariably us since we get to enjoy advanced features.

The 2025 Ram 1500: The Biggest Screen on the Market

I mentioned the Ram pickup in the opening of this piece for one simple reason: they’ve been leading the charge for more advanced truck interiors for quite a few years now. Inside, the Ram 1500 is often leading the way and delivering comfortable seating, best-in-class tech, and other great features that we then see Ford and Chevy quickly follow with their own offerings. It’s made driving and riding in trucks much more enjoyable in recent years, and it’s perfect for people who want a pickup as their daily driver.

Looking at the 2025 Ram 1500, because we have specific info for this latest model year, we see Ram delivering a slew of displays for drivers to enjoy. The standard screen in the Ram 1500 is a stunning 12-inch screen, while a massive 14.5-inch infotainment display is available on higher trims. What’s wild is that this is only the start: there’s an available 12-inch Driver Information Digital Cluster Display, a 10.25-inch Passenger Interactive Display available for the front passenger, plus a digital rearview mirror available for over 50 inches of combined screen area inside. Throw in an available 23-speaker Klipsch Reference Premiere Audio System (I’m a huge Klipsch fan, so this is a big win in my book) for the highest number of available speakers in its class, and you have an interior that’s on a level all its own.

The 2024 Toyota Tundra: A Very Close Second

As I said, Ram might lead the way with their interiors and features, but every other brand out there has pushed hard to try to keep up. Obviously, brands like Chevy and Ford come to mind when talking about full-size trucks, but they’re not the only competition the Ram 1500 has. Toyota has been making the Tundra for many years now, and while it might not be in the top three for sales each year, it has earned plenty of fans since it first hit the road. The modern Toyota Tundra is a testimony to simplified options and great design: there are only two engines available, but the available i-FORCE MAX engine provides 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque, so who needs more options?

Inside, Toyota brings its impressive eye for detail and gorgeous design to the truck market, and the Tundra offers an excellent time on the road. Not only does it handle and perform beautifully, but its cabin is spacious and well-appointed; the Tundra is a fantastic choice for a daily driver, and that’s a big part of why it’s gained so many fans year after year. For the 2024 model, an eight-inch infotainment display is standard, which is actually one of the smallest options we’ll see today.

Fortunately, a large 14-inch screen is available that comes very close to what Ram offers, and you’d likely never notice that half-inch difference, but I have to give Ram pickup its bragging rights. This is paired with an available 12.3-inch Multi-Information display for the driver, and there’s a 12-speaker JBL Premium sound system on offer, too, which creates a very enjoyable time on the road.

The 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500: Great Overall Functionality

For decades, the Ford F-Series have been the best-selling truck in America, and just behind the F-150 is typically either the Ram 1500 or the Chevy Silverado 1500. The two brands constantly jockey for this position—though I’m sure they’re also doing their best to try to topple the colossus that is the F-150. Chevy makes some of the most powerful engines on the market and they’re known for offering a huge number of features and options for their customers. In fact, if you want a light-duty full-size truck with a diesel engine, the only model available to you is the Chevy Silverado because Ram and Ford have both dropped their diesel options (the GMC Sierra still has one, but that’s the sibling to the Chevy Silverado).

Inside, the biggest weakness of the Chevy Silverado (and the Sierra alike; they both have similar tech features) is that it has the smallest standard screen we’ll see today. The starting Silverado comes with a seven-inch infotainment display, which works fine, but it’s not about to win any awards and, at half the size of what you can get in the Ram and Toyota trucks, is quite underwhelming. On the other side of things, there’s a gorgeous 13.4-inch infotainment screen available along with a 12.3-inch Driver Information Center, so you’re not ultimately going to miss out on much here. If you check out a trim like the High Country, it comes with these displays and a seven-speaker Bose Premium sound system for fantastic audio.

The 2024 Ford F-150: Smallest Screens, Biggest Capability

There were rumblings that we might see some big updates for the Ford F-150 for the 2025 model year, but it seems like that might not happen until 2026—either way, we’ll look at the 2024 model since that’s the most concrete info available right now. The F-150 is an automotive legend, and I’ve already mentioned that it’s been America’s favorite truck since dinosaurs roamed the earth. For many drivers, the F-Series has been the best-selling truck in the US for their entire lives, so Ford’s legacy is pretty well cemented at this point. But that doesn’t mean they can rest on their laurels and they continue to deliver impressive trucks.

As far as interior displays go, the F-150 is in a rather strange position. On the one hand, it has one of the best standard screens out of any we looked at today, but it also has the smallest available screen at the same time. That’s because Ford offers just one infotainment display for the F-150: a 12-inch screen that looks fantastic. This is much larger than the Silverado’s standard seven-inch screen and the starting eight-inch display of the Tundra. But then it falls behind the available infotainment displays in every other truck—so its position really depends on whether a driver wants standard features or wants to spring for some available options. The fact that the starting F-150 comes with this big screen paired with a 12-inch Digital Productivity Screen for the driver is terrific, and adding the available B&O Unleashed sound system creates an even better experience.

How Important Are Infotainment Screens to You?

I know this is a metric that isn’t make-or-break for every driver, which is fine because the beauty of the modern auto industry is that there’s something for everyone. While part of me will always think of trucks primarily as work vehicles for those who work in trades, I know they’re becoming increasingly popular as daily drivers for folks who will never tow anything behind them. No matter why someone wants a truck, they deserve a vehicle they enjoy driving, which delivers a fantastic experience on the road. Large infotainment displays make it easier to use safety features, including systems designed to enhance towing and other tech, so they’re a win for everyone. I can’t help but think we’re close to a full-luxury truck with a massive display stretched across the front dashboard and similar enhanced features. The only question I have is which truck model will bring it to the road first.
