Guess which luxury crossover is back and better than ever? It’s the 2021 Buick Envision! This petite model offers state-of-the-art technology and incredible comfort features to keep all occupants happy no matter where you go. In fact, the folks over at Buick are even reinventing the class, calling the new Envision an S(YOU)V. That alone should tell you just how well-thought-out this vehicle is. While not every detail has been released yet about the 2021 Buick Envision, we do know a few things. So, without further ado, here are 10 things we know right now about this upcoming compact crossover!
#10 – It’s Bigger
If you compare the new 2021 Buick Envision to the previous model, you will notice that this newer version is about 1.8-inches longer, 1.7-inches wider, and 2.2-inches lower to the ground. That puts the total measurements at 185.5-inches long, 74.1-inches wide, and 64.6-inches tall. Sitting on a 109.4-inch wheelbase, the new Envision actually weighs less than the 2020 model. The older Envision clocked in at 3,755 pounds, but the new model only weighs about 3,685 pounds. So, it’s bigger, but it is also lighter.
#9 – Cargo Room
Since this is a compact crossover, it only has two rows of seating. Behind the back row, there are approximately 25.2 cubic feet of room. While that is slightly less than the previous model’s 26.9 cubes, the maximum cargo area has grown from 52.7 cubic feet to 57.3 cubes. The cargo space measurements only see a slight difference, which means that the vehicle has remained consistent throughout the years. There is ample space for groceries, backpacks, kennels, sports gear, camping equipment, and anything else you need to bring along on the trip.
#8 – Passenger Room
With available seating for up to five people, the 2021 Buick Envision is ideal for just about anyone. Singles can enjoy the ample space for friends, four-legged family members, or cargo. Couples can enjoy stress-free driving as they plan to grow into the vehicle, and small families will have plenty of room for their kids.
As we mentioned before, the new 2021 Envision is bigger than the previous model. While we don’t see much difference in the cargo area, we do see a difference in the passenger area. There have been expansions and reductions throughout the cabin. In the front, the headroom has been decreased by 0.4-inches for a total of 39.6-inches. The legroom has been reduced by 0.5-inches, and the shoulder room has also been decreased by 0.3-inches. Also, for the front, the hip room has gained an extra 0.7-inches for more comfortable front seating.
In the back, we see a bit of a flip. The shoulder room has lost 0.7-inches, and the hip room has also been shaved down by 5.7-inches. However, an extra 0.4-inches has been given to the headroom, and the legroom has also been increased by 1.8-inches. Since the back-seat passengers are more likely to be children, the designers at Buick thought that having a bit more legroom was the most important feature.
#7 – Powertrain Lineup
Please keep in mind that Buick has not yet released all of the powertrain details. However, we do know a bit about the lineup of engines based on the previous model. We assume that the turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine will make a comeback on the 2021 Envision. This motor can produce 252 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque when it is equipped with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Your choice of FWD or AWD is also expected to carry over into the upcoming Envision powertrain lineup. While we cannot speculate at this time as to whether or not the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine will also carry over, we do know that the maximum towing capacity is set at 1,500 pounds.
#6 – Infotainment
Again, Buick has not released any details pertaining to the 2021 Envision’s infotainment system. However, it is safe to assume that the system from the 2020 model will carry over. This is an advanced infotainment interface displayed on an 8-inch touchscreen. We won’t be surprised if a larger 10-inch monitor is available on higher trim levels. Features will most likely include Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free calling and text messaging, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Smartphone integration is a given since this vehicle is a luxury model. We also expect to see satellite radio and a navigation system on upper-level trims.
#5 – Lane-Keeping Safety Systems
We are only speculating here, but we are almost certain that the new 2021 Buick Envision will include lane-keeping assist and lane-departure warning systems. These will use side-facing sensors to monitor the lines on the road and ensure that your vehicle doesn’t begin to drift. If the Envision begins to drift over the lines, the system will alert the driver to correct for this. It will also let the driver know if the other lane is clear for a safe lane change.
#4 – Stopping Systems
Our educated guess for stopping systems includes both pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking. Exterior sensors will detect if a person or an object is in the vehicle’s path. Both visual and audible alerts will go off if anything is detected. The emergency braking system will immediately stop the vehicle if no action is taken on the driver’s part.
#3 – Automated Parking System
We are also going out on a limb to say that we expect the 2021 Buick Envision to have an available automated parking system. This will most likely come on higher trim levels, or it will be a stand-alone option. Used to make parallel street parking much easier, you won’t have to worry about causing a fender bender ever again.
#2 – Adaptive Cruise Control
Last year’s model came with adaptive cruise control, and we wholeheartedly believe that the 2021 model will also have this feature. What’s great about it is that it takes cruise control to a new level. If traffic slows down after you have already set your desired speed, the system will slow the vehicle down to match the flow of traffic. Once the traffic has cleared, the system will return the vehicle to the originally set speed.
#1 – Trims and Pricing
The 2021 Buick Envision will be available in four unique trim levels. The trims for this new model include the Envision (Base), Preferred, Essence, and Avenir. While the pricing for the new Envision trim level has not been fully revealed, many are speculating that the car will begin to price at around $34,000. For reference, last year’s base model began at $33,500. Last year’s most expensive model was about $43,600, but it is possible that this year’s models may surpass that. This is the main reason why we think there will be some incredible safety features included on every trim. Although we don’t have very many rock-solid details yet, we do know that you won’t pay more money and get nothing in return. We expect the 2021 Buick Envision to be well-equipped and fun to drive.
